I have had several people ask me about working as a loanout on a union show. And since I am getting ready to change my loanout corp papers, I wanted to know. Are there any rules/procedures we need to be aware of to work as a loan out and still get out union hours and contributions?

Not really -- it's not changed much in the last 10 years.
Or did I misunderstand your question? ------------------------- Tris Carpenter, National Organizer MPEG, IATSE Local 700 323-876-4770 x244 tcarpenter@editorsguild.com Edited: 03/12/2008 at 01:40 PM by Tris |

I think what moviemoose is trying to ask is a result of the fact that if a show is Union they usually will not pay you through your loanout corporation since our personal S Corps that we work under for tax purposes are not union signatories.
So I believe his question is... is there a way to still reap the tax benefits of working under an S Corp loanout to the production company if the show is Union and still get your hours or must you W2 all your income while working on a Union show in order to get the hours? I don't think that's Moose's question. You can work as a loan out under IATSE agreements -- that's been the case for at least a few decades, I'm sure.
If you do, your loan out entity gets the check, but the benefit contributions are paid on the individual, using your SS# as the ID. As for tex benefits, I don't speculate on such things. It's not my area of expertise. I would imagine your accountant will have a much better idea. ------------------------- Tris Carpenter, National Organizer MPEG, IATSE Local 700 323-876-4770 x244 tcarpenter@editorsguild.com |
